Terms and Conditions

These Terms and Conditions apply to all work carried out by String Town Handyman Ltd (“the Company”) for any customer (“the Client”) and form the entire agreement between the Company and the Client.

 

1. Legal Entity

 

1.1 The contract for services is between the Client and String Town Handyman Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales.

 

1.2 No director, employee, or representative of the Company shall be personally liable for any contractual obligations of the Company.2. Quotations and Estimates

 

2.1 All quotations and estimates are valid for 30 days unless otherwise stated.

 

2.2 Any estimate provided is based on the information available at the time of inspection or discussion and is subject to change if:

 

The scope of work changes

Additional work is required

Unforeseen complications arise

Hidden defects are discovered

Material or labour costs increase

 

2.3 Any additional or unexpected work discovered during the job will be discussed with the Client at the time it arises. Such work is chargeable in addition to the original estimate.

 

2.4 The Company will not proceed with additional chargeable work without the Client’s verbal or written agreement.

 

3. Pricing and Payment

 

3.1 The Company is not VAT registered. All prices quoted are not subject to VAT.

 

3.2 Unless otherwise agreed in writing:

Payment is due immediately upon completion of the work

Larger projects may require a deposit prior to commencement

 

3.3 The Company reserves the right to charge statutory interest and compensation on overdue payments in accordance with the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 (for commercial clients).

 

3.4 The Company reserves the right to suspend or cease work if agreed payments are not made.

 

4. Variations and Additional Work

 

4.1 While every effort is made to assess works accurately, certain issues may only become apparent once work has commenced, including but not limited to:

Hidden water damage

Rot or damp

Unsafe wiring or plumbing

Structural defects

Poor workmanship by others

 

4.2 Any additional work required as a result of such findings will be discussed with the Client and will be chargeable.

 

5. Painting and Decorating Work

 

5.1 All painting quotations include reasonable preparation and application of up to two (2) coats of paint only.

 

5.2 Any additional coats required to achieve satisfactory coverage — including where strong colours, significant colour changes, porous surfaces, or poor substrate condition require further application — will be chargeable as an extra.

 

5.3 The Company is not responsible for manufacturer defects in paint or materials supplied by the Client.

 

5.4 Where paint is supplied by the Client, any additional labour caused by product quality or coverage issues will be chargeable.

 

6. Materials

 

6.1 Unless otherwise agreed, materials will be supplied by the Company and charged accordingly.

 

6.2 Where the Client supplies materials:

The Company accepts no responsibility for delays, defects, or additional labour arising from unsuitable or defective materials

Additional time required due to Client-supplied materials will be chargeable

 

6.3 Ownership of materials supplied by the Company remains with the Company until full payment is received.

 

7. Client Responsibilities

 

7.1 The Client must provide safe, unobstructed access to the work area.

 

7.2 The Client is responsible for:

Removing or protecting valuables and fragile items

Ensuring pets and children are kept away from work areas

Informing the Company of known hazards or structural issues

 

7.3 The Company reserves the right to suspend work where unsafe conditions exist.

 

8. Electrical, and Plumbing Work

 

8.1 The Company will only undertake work within its competence and within legal allowances.

 

8.2 Any work requiring certification under Part P of the Building Regulations, Gas Safe regulations, or other statutory requirements may require appropriately registered subcontractors and may incur additional costs.

 

9. Completion Times

 

9.1 Any completion date provided is an estimate only and is not legally binding.

 

9.2 The Company is not liable for delays caused by:

Unforeseen complications

Weather conditions

Delays in materials

Client-requested variations

Circumstances beyond the Company’s reasonable control

 

10. Cancellations

 

10.1 Where the Client is a consumer contracting at a distance (online or by phone), the Client may have cancellation rights under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.

 

10.2 If cancellation occurs:

With less than 48 hours’ notice, the Company reserves the right to charge for lost time and materials purchased

Deposits may be non-refundable where materials have already been ordered

 

11. Liability

 

11.1 The Company maintains appropriate Public Liability Insurance.

 

11.2 The Company shall not be liable for:

Pre-existing defects

Poor workmanship by third parties

Consequential or indirect loss

Damage resulting from hidden structural defects not visible at quotation stage

 

11.3 The Company’s total liability shall not exceed the total contract value.

 

11.4 Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence or any liability that cannot legally be excluded under English law.

 

12. Waste Disposal

 

12.1 Removal of waste materials is included only where stated in the quotation.

 

12.2 The Company will dispose of waste in accordance with applicable regulations.

 

13. Guarantees

 

13.1 Workmanship is guaranteed for 6 months from completion, provided:

Full payment has been received

The work has not been altered or interfered with

The issue is not caused by misuse or normal wear and tear

 

13.2 Manufacturer warranties apply to materials where applicable.

 

14. Force Majeure

The Company shall not be liable for delay or failure to perform obligations due to events beyond its reasonable control, including but not limited to extreme weather, illness, accidents, supplier shortages, or government restrictions.

 

15. Governing Law

These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

 

16. Acceptance

By accepting a quotation and instructing the Company to commence work, the Client confirms acceptance of these Terms and Conditions and acknowledges that the contract is with String Town Hamdyman Ltd.
